What we do

Vision Zero Australia designs Safe System road safety treatments for local streets across regional and rural Australia — engineered for the places where road trauma is now rising fastest. Every engagement is scoped and quoted as a fixed fee, and you deal with Christopher Davis directly, not a graduate assigned to the file.

We solve two problems councils actually have. The first is cost: a consultant recommends a treatment the budget can’t stretch to, the report goes in a drawer, and the crash history continues. The second is alignment: a council has the funding — sometimes a state programme allocation sitting unspent — and still can’t get the work built because the design doesn’t meet the programme criteria. We know what Safe System treatments cost to build, and we know what state funding programmes need to see. Engaged early, we align your design and your submission from the start, so the funding works and the work gets built.

Core services

• Low-Cost Implanted Compact Roundabout (LCICR) design — the award-winning innovation. Safe System entry speeds for vulnerable road users at roughly one-tenth the cost and a fraction of the build time of a conventional roundabout. Concept and detailed design.

• Road Safety Audits — Stage 1–4 and existing-conditions audits by a Senior Road Safety Auditor with 20 years of council-side experience.

• Motorcycle Road Safety Audits — a specialist discipline where the auditor rides the route, across Victoria’s most challenging rural and alpine roads.

• Safe System Assessments — formal assessment of existing roads and new designs against safe speeds, safe roads, safe vehicles and safe people.

• Road and Intersection Design — concept to detailed design, with cost estimates structured for council budget alignment.

• Traffic Impact Assessments — TIAs for development applications, rezoning and infrastructure.

• Speed Management Plans and Studies — network-level planning, AusRAP and ANRAM analysis, speed environment reviews.

• Road Safety Strategy Development — evidence-based strategic plans linked to the Safe System framework.

• Movement and Place — road safety and placemaking as the same conversation; redundant road space reclaimed as public realm.

• Active Transport Design — paths, crossings, separated lanes and end-of-trip facilities.

• Integrated Transport Strategies — multi-modal strategies covering road, active and public transport, rail crossings, climate and funding.

• Subdivision Road Safety Audits — concept, detailed-design and pre-opening stages.

• Car Park Design and Assessments — pedestrian conflict points, sight lines, speed management, accessibility and layout.

• State and Federal Funding Programme Submissions — Black Spot, Safer Roads and other programmes, with design and submission aligned from the design stage.

If you have a site in the crash data and a budget that won’t stretch to the prescribed fix, that’s exactly the work we’re built for. Tell us the site, the timeline, and what you have to work with, and we’ll tell you what can be built.
