Road safety from someone who has sat in your chair
Christopher Davis spent 20 years working in, then leading, local government engineering teams in Mildura. He has been handed the consultant’s report that recommends a treatment the budget will never reach. Vision Zero Australia exists so councils get advice they can afford to build.
Delivering on a council budget
For 20 years, including as team leader of Engineering Design at Mildura Rural City Council. When a life was lost at a CBD intersection and a conventional roundabout was out of reach, Chris invented one the budget could cover, and built it. Then he built a second.
Two compact roundabouts for $93,500 in total. No fatal or serious injury crashes at either since.

2020 Australasian College of Road Safety 3M Diamond Road Safety Award, for inventing, designing and building the Low-Cost Implanted Compact Roundabout.
Three-time Austroads Project Working Group member, representing local government and rural and remote interests on the national Road Safety Audit guide (AGRS06-22) and the regional and remote areas guide (AGRS05-19).
TAC LGA Safe System Lead, 2018 to 2019. Visited all 79 Victorian councils in person.

VicRoads, Main Roads, NZTA and four other road bodies have requested the roundabout design.

Why Chris does this work
In 1980, when Chris was 19, three of his friends were in a single-vehicle crash on the way home from a night out. Two died. The third spent nine months in hospital.
